Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 8, 2026
1. Who we are
Stocks with Friends (“Stocks with Friends”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is operated by Oliver Davidsson, a personal project based in Sweden. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use our website at stockswithfriends.com and our mobile applications (together, the “Service”), how we use it, and the rights you have over it.
By using the Service you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Stocks with Friends is a personal project, not a financial services product. Nothing on the Service is financial, investment, or trading advice. See our Terms of Service for the full disclaimer.
2. Information we collect
We try to collect only what we need to run the Service. The categories below describe everything we collect.
2.1 Information you give us
- Account information. Your email address, display name, and (if you sign in with Google) the basic profile details Google shares with us. We never see your Google password.
- Profile information. Anything you choose to add to your profile: bio, avatar, social links.
- Portfolio information. The stock tickers, quantities, and average buy prices you add. This is the core data the Service is built to track.
- Social information. The friends you follow, who follows you, and the privacy settings you choose for your portfolio (public or friends-only).
- Communications. If you email us or contact support, we keep a record of that correspondence.
2.2 Information we collect automatically
- Device and usage data. IP address, browser type, operating system, app version, device identifiers, pages visited, and timestamps. We use this for security, debugging, and analytics.
- Cookies and similar technologies. We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies (for login sessions) and, where you opt in, analytics cookies. You can manage cookies through your browser.
2.3 Information from third parties
- Authentication providers. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and basic profile details.
- Market data providers. We use Finnhub to retrieve live and historical stock prices. We send them ticker symbols, never your personal information.
2.4 What we do not collect
- We do not collect government IDs, social security numbers, or bank account numbers.
- We do not have access to your brokerage account. The portfolio data on the Service is what you manually enter — we do not connect to your real brokerage.
- We do not collect health or biometric information.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the Service — show you your portfolio, sync it across devices, and surface friends’ activity.
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- Communicate with you about the Service — product updates, security notices, support replies.
- Improve the Service, fix bugs, and analyze how features are used (in aggregate).
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for behavioral advertising.
4. How we share your information
We share information only in the limited circumstances below.
- With other users of the Service. Your display name, avatar, and (depending on your privacy setting) your portfolio holdings and performance are visible to friends or to the public. You control this through your privacy settings.
- With service providers. We use third parties to run the Service: Supabase (database and authentication), Vercel (hosting), and Finnhub (market data). These providers process data on our behalf under written agreements.
- For legal reasons. We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Stocks with Friends, our users, or others.
- In a business transfer. If we are acquired, merged, or sell substantially all of our assets, your information may be transferred to the acquirer subject to this Privacy Policy.
5. Where your data is stored
The Service is hosted in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention reasons.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your information (“right to be forgotten”).
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Receive a portable copy of your information.
- Withdraw consent where we rely on consent to process your data.
To exercise any of these rights, email stockswithfriendsdev@gmail.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, our legal bases for processing are: performance of our contract with you (running the Service), our legitimate interests (security, improving the Service), your consent (where required), and compliance with legal obligations.
If you are a California resident, you have the rights described in the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at stockswithfriendsdev@gmail.com and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, role-based access controls, and row-level security on our database. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service before the changes take effect. The “Last updated” date at the top tells you when this policy was last revised.
